Membership of RRUK-A is recognised at an institutional level. UK universities or other institutions eligible to receive research council funding are eligible to become members. All such institutions with the capability to undertake research that can be of benefit to the railway sector are entitled to be members; the only requirement to join is to demonstrate this capability.
Each institution will be asked to nominate one primary contact who will be responsible for all RRUK-A activities that need to be organised at an institutional level. Examples of this are given on the institutional membership application form, which should be submitted by the primary contact.
Individuals can become registered researchers from member institutions. If you are interested in becoming a registered researcher you should notify the primary contact from your institution. If you do not know who the primary contact is from your institution, please contact the secretariat.
Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis, throughout the year.
Currently, there is no charge for membership; however this will be subject to review after one year. The currently planned activities of RRUK-A will be funded by RSSB and Network Rail.
Application forms and an invitation flyer can be downloaded from the Document Downloads page.
Industrial membership
No industrial membership of RRUK-A will be required. All industrial interest in RRUK-A will be organised through RSSB. If you are an industrial representative of the rail industry and would like to engage with RRUK-A, please contact rruka@rssb.co.uk
Knowledge sharing
Although there is no membership fee, members of RRUK-A will be asked to furnish RRUK-A with details of all railway-related research activities (past, present and future). This information will help manage research programmes and projects, avoiding duplicating existing or planned research, and will contribute to the ‘map’ of railway expertise.
