RSSB is an expert body that helps the rail industry collaborate to continuously improve and meet future challenges. It spans the whole railway, including in its membership infrastructure companies, train and freight operators, rolling stock owners and suppliers to the industry. RSSB supports rail in the areas of safety, standards, knowledge, innovation and a wide range of cross-industry schemes.
Over the past 4 years, we have successfully run an annual rolling placement scheme through RRUKA, into our Knowledge Analysis team within the R&D Directorate. Two placement opportunities have arisen again starting in Autumn 2017.
Working as part of a team, you will actively monitor and report on past and current rail research as well as developments in other sectors of relevance to the rail industry. You will use your analytical and research skills to conduct knowledge searches with real significance to rail, exploring cutting edge technologies and employing analytical methods to assess their impact on rail. In return, you can expect an excellent opportunity to gain rail insight as well as the opportunity to practically develop your analytical capability.
This opportunity is available to undergraduate and post graduate students from institutions that are RRUKA members, required to take an industrial gap year as part of their higher education. You must be registered as a student at the member university during the placement and have the legal right to live and work in the UK.
If you would like to apply, you should initially express your interest locally to your RRUKA contact, who will check your eligibility to apply. You should also provide your CV and covering letter to your RRUKA contact who will forward your application to (email@example.com) at RSSB.
